The Shadow of the Cannibal: Rammstein's "Mein Teil" and the Macabre Story of Armin Meiwes
Share
The dark chords of "Mein Teil" reverberate in the air, enveloping the audience in an aura of mystery and tension .
The lyrics, sung in Till Lindemann's guttural voice, tell a macabre story: a man who yearns to be devoured by another. The song, as controversial as it is popular, is just the tip of the iceberg of an even more chilling true story: that of the German cannibal Armin Meiwes.
On the surface, Armin Meiwes was an ordinary man. He worked as an IT technician in Rotenburg an der Fulda, a small German town. He was introverted, with few friends, but he appeared to lead a quiet life. However, in the depths of his mind, a dark fascination was brewing : the idea of consuming human flesh.

The police investigation revealed gruesome details of the case.
"The first bite was, of course, very strange," Meiwes told Barcroft TV on Interview with a Cannibal. He added: "I had spent over 40 years wanting it, dreaming about it. And now I had the feeling that I was actually achieving this perfect inner connection through his flesh."
In 2017, after 16 years in prison, Armin Meiwes was released on parole. He now lives in a small village under police supervision, working on a book about his experience.
